TAG Heuer Monza Chronograph Launches a Re-edition that Faithfully Presents the Essence of the Original

In 1976, Jack Heuer, the great-grandson of TAG Heuer’s founder, crafted a chronograph for Niki Lauda, the world champion driver racing for Ferrari at the time. From 1971 to 1979, TAG Heuer served as the official timekeeper for Scuderia Ferrari, marking the first appearance of the “MONZA” name on the dial. This watch exuded a distinctive racing vibe, with its cushion-shaped case inspired by a watch released in 1925. The all-black chronograph featured a pulsometer (to measure heart rate), a tachymetric scale (to convert time to speed), and a vibrant red chronograph dial and hands, presenting a refreshing design that wrote a new chapter in the history of racing watches.

Today, everything comes full circle. The 2016 TAG Heuer Monza Chronograph Launches replica reintroduces the two most important features of the watch: the pulsometer and tachymetric scale, which were not included in previous editions. It also uses the same font as the original model. Naturally, it retains the iconic cushion-shaped case and the all-black color scheme, complemented by black and white lacquered hour and minute hands that closely resemble the original design, faithfully recreating this classic piece. The vintage SuperLuminovaâ„¢ orange luminescent hour markers have also been incorporated. Additionally, the historically significant HEUER logo on the dial represents the ongoing legacy of the brand’s classic collection.

Replica TAG Heuer Monza 40th Anniversary Calibre 17 model CR2080.FC6375 features a case and bezel made of grade 5 titanium with a carbonized titanium coating, measuring 42mm in diameter. It boasts a black sunburst dial with an embossed vintage Heuer logo, along with the inscriptions “MONZA” and “Automatic – Calibre 17” on the dial. The watch is powered by the Calibre 17 automatic chronograph movement, which includes a date display, a pulsometer scale measured in “15 pulse beats” (timing starts at the first pulse beat and stops at the fifteenth), and a tachymetric scale for converting time to speed. It has a double-sided anti-reflective and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, a polished stainless steel crown etched with the Heuer logo, and a screw-down case back engraved with “MONZA,” the vintage “HEUER” logo, and the “No XXXX” serial number. The watch is water-resistant up to 100 meters and comes with a black perforated calfskin strap, inspired by vintage steering wheels.

Connecting the past and the present, the case is now made of grade 5 titanium, which is lighter and more impact-resistant than the previous stainless steel. The carbonized titanium treatment creates a powerful matte black finish. The diameter has been notably increased from the original smaller size of 39mm to a more masculine and modern 42mm. The watch is paired with a black full-grain calfskin “super racing” strap featuring stitching, reminiscent of the three-hole steering wheel design from that era.

The Calibre 17 automatic chronograph movement is housed within, featuring two chronograph sub-dials positioned at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock. The spacing between the two dials has been intentionally widened to create a pleasing aesthetic harmony on the dial. The screw-down case back is engraved with the iconic red lacquered HEUER classic logo and bears an individual serial number. The original Heuer Monza watch has become a sought-after treasure among collectors, with very few replicas released. This 40th-anniversary commemorative watch, crafted in the spirit of the original, will undoubtedly leave a significant mark in the brand’s legacy.
